About this project

HRPF challenged revised electricity-connection charges through the Power Division, GEPCO and NEPRA, prompting a regulatory inquiry.

The challenge

Revised demand notices created concerns about affordability and fair treatment for households seeking electricity connections.

Our approach

HRPF sought a review through the responsible provider and regulator and considered further lawful remedies.

What we aim to achieve

  • Seek review of revised electricity-connection charges.

What we do

  • Raised connection-charge concerns with the provider and Power Division.
  • Submitted a petition to NEPRA.
  • Requested review of revised estimates and notices.
  • Requested review of revised connection rates and honouring of previously issued demand notices.

Results and lasting change

  • NEPRA initiated an inquiry and requested a report from GEPCO.
  • A final tariff decision or completed court proceeding is not established.

Affordability and fair treatment

HRPF’s representation challenged the burden of revised connection charges and asked the Power Division to review the rates in the public interest. It also requested that previously issued demand notices be honoured at their approved rates. This records the Foundation’s requested remedy, rather than a confirmed reversal of the charges.
